Applicant FAQs
How can I apply for a grant?
Grants may take the form of a one-time payment or may cover a period of up to three months of care.
Can someone help me fill out the application?
If you need assistance completing the application, you may call on the person who holds your legal power of attorney to fill it out for you. If you ask someone else to help with the application, we will need your call 816-759-5450 and a grant administrator can help you over the phone to get the application completed. In general we prefer you, or a person who holds your legal power of attorney, fill out the form. If you ask for someone else to help with the application, we will need documentation showing your authorization for the person to to represent you in the application process.
Who is eligible to receive a grant?
Individuals who reside in the United States, are actively working for healing in Christian Science, need Christian Science nursing care, and are unable to pay the full cost of this care.
What information will I need to provide in order to apply for a grant?
We will need your contact information, an understanding of your current reliance on Christian Science, and your financial information, including a copy of your most recent tax return. We will let you know if any further information is needed. All information we receive is kept strictly confidential.
Insurance and/or Medicare may pay for part of my care. Can I apply to the fund while I wait to hear back from the insurance company?
Yes. If you are approved for a grant, we can give you an up-to amount, and then wait to hear back how much insurance will pay. In general, NFCSN pays toward the balance of the costs after we know the amount insurance will cover.
Do I need to be receiving care from a Journal-listed Christian Science nurse to qualify for a grant?
Yes. The grant can help pay toward care provided by a Journal-listed Christian Science nurse or a Christian Science nursing organization that provides full oversight and supervision of any non-Journal-listed Christian Science nurses working on your case.
Will a grant cover the full cost of my care?
No. NFCSN grants cover only a portion of the total care costs.
Can I receive a grant for an invoice I've already paid?
No. Grants may be applied only toward unpaid Christian Science nursing invoices.
How long is a grant for?
Grants may take the form of a one-time payment or may cover a period of up to three months of care.
If I need another grant when this one expires, what can I do?
If you are continuing to work for and expect healing, and you need assistance with care costs that extend beyond the original grant period, you may request a renewal of your grant.
Are grants available outside the US?
NFCSN only provides grants to residents of the United States. However, the International Fund for Christian Science Nursing, provides financial support to individuals residing in other parts of the world who have chosen the care of a Christian Science nurse and need assistance to cover the cost of that care. Our grants are supplemental to European-based grants already paid. IFCSN is currently welcoming applications for financial assistance from residents of Canada and Europe (including Switzerland and the UK). Eventually it will open to other regions of the world.
